Explore siblings Anjali Khera & Ranjeet Guptara’s inspiring 2000km Camino de Santiago cycling journey from Switzerland to Spain, filled with adventure, faith, and unforgettable experiences.

In the September of 2000, siblings Anjali Khera and Ranjeet Guptara set out on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, cycling more than 2,000km from the Swiss/German border to Spain along the legendary Camino de Santiago de Compostela.

Preparation was everything in the days before GPS. Anjali Khera and Ranjeet Guptara packed carefully, and even chopped their tooth brushes in half to save weight! Their trusty bicycles, fitted with panniers, carried them through the Alps, across French plains, Pyrenees, and finally into the rolling landscapes of northern Spain. The pilgrimage tested their endurance, deepened their faith, and strengthened their bond.

A glimpse of a scallop shell brings back many fond memories of sun-burnt left sides as Anjali and Ranjeet headed due West, rock-hard thighs, resilience and team work as they took it in turns to encourage each other around the next corner and up the next hill.

[ WHY ]

Why the Camino in 2000?

The end of the millennium felt like the perfect moment to undertake a journey that so many pilgrims have taken before them. Anjali Khera and Ranjeet Guptara were both students then, and full of energy. They had studied at Pangbourne College together, and Ranjeet was at Oxford University, where the history of European pilgrimage was an inspiration. The schools gave them long traditions of discipline and adventure!  It seemed natural for them to put our learning, spirit, and courage into practice on the road.
